My son and I did not have a place to call home. We were staying anywhere we could find. At the same time I wanted to keep my family safe from my previous boyfriend. It was very stressful time that took a toll on me emotionally and mentally. I just wanted some stability. I worked hard to save money to get a place, but could not do it on m own.
When my son and I entered Family Promise, I had nothing. This program provided a stable place to stay while I saved money. I never thought I could do that before Family Promise. While there, I made amazing connections with others in the same situation. We bonded, and now I’m leaving with lifelong friends.
I’m so grateful for all the volunteers who helped us through this process. Staying at the different congregations and meeting new people really made me appreciate it all. The volunteers truly do this out of the kindness of their hearts and really want to see us succeed. My favorite part about staying overnight was getting to know the volunteers on a personal level. We shared stories and bonded in a different type of way.
I genuinely appreciate Family Promise of Hawaii, and everyone who participates with it. They helped me obtain permanent housing, save money, and make friendships that will last a lifetime. Now that I have my own place, I can see myself and my family coming back to visit and give back to this program. My appreciation for all the things that Family Promise helped me with will never go unnoticed. I will always remember the staff, volunteers, and other families I met through this journey.
