HONOLULU, February 16, 2024 — Governor Josh Green, M.D., was honored with the inaugural Luminary Award for his efforts to end family homelessness by the nonprofit Family Promise of Hawaiʻi.
Governor Green received the award at Family Promise of Hawaiʻi’s Brighter Futures Gala last evening, February 16, which took place at the Hoʻokupu Center.
“It is truly an honor to have received the inaugural Luminary Award from Family Promise of Hawaiʻi,” said Governor Josh Green, M.D. “Its mission, specializing in serving children and families experiencing homelessness, aligns with my priorities and I am happy to say that both the organization and my administration are making progress every day. Our team has started opening kauhale for our houseless neighbors and more are coming to improve their health and overall stability.”
Keiki under age 5 are at greatest risk of experiencing homelessness, according to federal data, and an estimated 1 in 30 young children in Hawaiʻi experience homelessness annually. The annual Luminary Award recognizes a community leader who takes significant steps toward addressing this crisis of child and family homelessness.
“We are deeply grateful to Governor Green for lighting the way to a Hawaiʻi where every child has a home,” said Ryan Catalani, Executive Director of Family Promise of Hawaiʻi. “Family homelessness is one of Hawaiʻi’s most urgent challenges, and when our community comes together, we can truly create brighter futures for our children and families.”
With programs on Oʻahu and Maui, Family Promise of Hawaiʻi serves hundreds of families annually through emergency shelter, rental assistance, and case management. The Brighter Futures Gala is Family Promise of Hawaiʻi’s signature annual fundraiser, which this year was generously supported by Presenting Sponsor HMSA.
